Anti monarchists want government to abolish kingdoms
A group of anti monarchists has petitioned president Museveni asking him to abolish kingdoms which they describe as dens of sadists and oppression.
The leaders of the Batuku community (tribe found in western Uganda) wrote to President Museveni last week that many of the traditional institutions should be abolished because they practice territorial cultural expansions over minority tribes like the Batuku community.
Writing to Museveni through their umbrella association of the “Ant-Kingdom interference Batuku community, the Batuku leaders allege that kingdoms like Tooro kingdom and Rwenzururu sit on their cultural rights.
The Batuku leaders say that they feel privileged to have kingdoms abolished and remain with the NRM government which came out of struggles against forces of tyranny, oppression and exploitation.
The group especially says that the pro-Omukama of Tooro and Omusinga Bwanzururu violate the Constitution of Uganda by imposing their kings on the Batuku yet the Batuku are a different tribe.
