Wilson Bugenmbe, Uganda’s popular singing Pastor

When you talk about gospel music in Uganda, there is no way you will miss mentioning the name of Wilson Bugembe in this age and era. He has been the most influential singer in selling out gospel sounds to the secular world.

Bugembe’s music crosses beyond the bounds of Christian Circles and he and Judith Babirye are the only gospel artists that can be considered to have become cross over gospel artists.

One of the reasons for this in Bugembe’s case is because his music goes beyond simply the usual praise and worship themes that most gospel songs carry to the themes that touch the day-to-day life of Christians and people from the secular world.

Having lost both parents at the tender age of 10 to HIV/AIDS, most of his life as a child was a difficult challenge.  It was the inspiration for some of the songs like Komawo eka, Yellow. The song that brought the singer to the music forefront was Mukama Njagala Kumanya which when followed by Kani and Ani have made Bugembe a household name in Uganda’s music industry.  Bugembe is also a Senior Pastor at Light the World Ministries in Nansana.
